Our Project
The Deep Discovery Project takes students on a journey into the hidden world of the deep sea.
Instead of just reading about the ocean, students step into the role of real scientists. They explore real deep-sea images, work with authentic data, and help uncover what lies in one of the most mysterious environments on Earth.
It’s hands-on, curiosity-driven learning — where students don’t just learn science, they do science.
Learning about Deep-Sea Habitats
The journey is divided into five unique deep-sea habitats.
From vibrant underwater communities full of life to mysterious, alien-like seafloor worlds, each module reveals a different part of the ocean’s hidden story.
Students move through structured yet flexible learning experiences designed for different ages and levels of understanding.
Along the way, they:
- explore real deep-sea environments
- investigate key scientific ideas
- work with authentic ocean data
- prepare for real research tasks
Each module builds knowledge step by step — preparing to dive into real science!
Becoming a Deep-Sea Scientist
At the end of each module, the real mission begins.
Students step into the role of researchers using BIIGLE.party — a tool used by scientists to study deep-sea life.
Here, they explore real scientific images captured from the ocean floor and help identify organisms hidden within them.
But their role goes even further.
Every annotation they make helps train artificial intelligence systems to recognize deep-sea species automatically.
That means students are not just learning about science — they are actively shaping how science is done.
Their work becomes part of real research exploring the mysteries of the ocean.
